It’s around this point of the year where many people will reflect and consider what they accomplished and how much progress they were able to make on important goals over the last year. As such, it’s not uncommon for many to feel underwhelmed knowing that they didn’t hit the mark like they had hoped. It’s true that 95% of people who set New Year’s Resolutions fail to achieve them. Rather than focusing on what goes wrong with those 95% let’s instead focus on what the 5% do a little differently:

Get Laser Focused

The individuals who are truly amazing at accomplishing their goals are super connected to their vision. They have taken the time to really assess what’s important to them and develop an image in their mind of what success really looks like. Remember that clarity is power and the more clear and specific your goal is the more likely you are to achieve it. So, Instead of making a generic goal to lose weight or even X number of pounds, ask yourself “Why do I want this and what will life be like when I get there?” Have a specific target time in mind and clear vision of the finish line. This will provide the magnetism to pull you forward through difficult times and frustration that are inevitable.

Utilize the Power of Rituals

Incorporation of daily rituals into your routine can reinforce positive behaviors and habits. Rather than relying on sporadic bursts of motivation, establish rituals that align with your goals. Consistency is key, and rituals help create a structured foundation for long-term success. Remember success is not a cataclysmic event, rather, it’s the small things done day in and day out over time. An example of a ritual would be getting up 15 minutes earlier than you normally do. It’s a small shift, but if done over a week you’ve added nearly 2 hours of potentially productive time that could be used towards your goals. Set alarms on your phone for these added rituals until they become automatic.

Develop an Unstoppable Mindset

Building an unstoppable mindset is crucial for overcoming challenges and setbacks that occur on the path towards achieving goals. Depending on the target you can expect to fail 5 times for every 1 success, at least. That means you have to establish a growth mindset and understand that mistakes are incredible learning opportunities and part of the process. There are several ways to achieve this mindset. 1)  Seek out feedback from other sources and be receptive to the input of others. 2) Surround yourself with others who are high achievers and push you to be a better version of yourself. 3) Constantly track and reflect on your progress and analyze where course corrections are needed.
